Paris
Paris is the capital city of France and trendsetter for the rest of the country. Situated on the River Seine, at the heart of the Ile-de-France region, Paris is made up of twenty spiraling arrondissements (boroughs), which include two islands, the Ile Saint-Louis and the larger Ile de la Cite, which form the oldest part of the city. It is currently estimated that the city plays host to over 2 million Parisians, spread through the boroughs and the developing outskirts.
As an important and influential settlement for thousands of years, Paris has long been a hub of business and culture. To this day a significant percentage of French business is still conducted there, with La Defense, the largest purpose built business district in Europe, hosting many major French companies and even some of the World’s elite. As you would expect from a capital city, government and political offices are also in residence in Paris.
Culturally, Paris is home to famous museums, opera houses, galleries and countless cinemas, theatres, bars and restaurants. As a result, Paris is often attributed the title of ‘most popular tourist destination in the World’, with over 30 million visitors annually.
Paris' museums and monuments are by far its best-known assets, and the support of a booming tourist trade has done nothing but bolster their importance. Among the most famous sites, is the city's highly prized museum, the Louvre, which is by far the world's most visited art museum. Other sights include the Notre-Dame cathedral, Sacré-Coeur basilica and The Eiffel Tower, by far Paris' most famous monument. Modern Paris has even welcomed other more diverse attractions to settle in the city, such as the Disneyland Resort Paris.
Much as you would expect from a capital city, property prices in central Paris are comparatively expensive. However, in some of the upcoming districts and the outskirts, property prices are exceedingly reasonable, especially when compared with other world leading capital cities such as London.
